The 41st annual Silver 1000 at the Proctor Speedway is a long running special event which
started out as a Late Model Special back in 1973 and the Modifieds were added in 2000. This 41st
version had three races instead of two as the biggest race was against Mom Nature as officials
hustled to get the event in the books. The “Grand Daddy Of ‘Em All” drew 29 Modifieds and 30
Late Models as heavy rains and severe thunderstorm warnings plagued the area….except for the
City of Proctor and the Proctor Speedway. Though ominous clouds and a few sprinkles loomed,
the race went on and it was a good one. Weather concerns no doubt kept a number of traveling
racers and fans from making the trip which kept the car count on the low side. A pretty good
crowd did show to see the two division program.

Each division had four heat races and a B Feature. Pole dashes were scheduled to set the first
four rows in each main event, but, in order to finish the show in a timely manner, they were
It would be 30 laps for the WISSOTA Modifieds with Kevin Adams and Cory Jorgenson
sharing the front row. At the initial green flag Adams went for the lead and raced side by side
with Jorgenson on the lightning fast three eighths mile speedway. Trent Follmer, Al Uotinen and
Jeff Broking ran in the top five. A caution flag for debris on the front stretch with three laps
complete realigned the field. The restart saw Adams retain the lead as Follmer slipped into
second and they drew away from the Broking, Jorgenson duel for third by six car lengths.
Follmer battled with Adams in the low groove but Adams was able to stay slightly in the lead in
the upper groove. The field began to spread out leaving Broking alone in third ahead of Uotinen
and Jorgenson. Uotinen slipped by Jorgenson into fourth as the laps unwound and, up front,
Adams was eyeing up heavy traffic at the back of the pack at he half way point. Adams began to
work his way through traffic with Follmer closing up to try and make a move for the lead as more
laps unreeled. Broking was still unchallenged in third while Uotinen was joined by Jeff Hart in
the fourth place battle. The second caution flag thus far in the event served to change the
complexion of the race as now the traffic was gone and the end was in sight with seven circuits
remaining. The restart line up had Adams on point with Follmer, Broking, Uotinen and Hart in
the top five. Close behind this group were two time Silver 1000 Modified winner Darrell Nelson
and ‘03 winner Kelly Estey. At the green Broking went for second place and he and Follmer had
contact bringing out another caution flag and Follmer was tagged with the incident and sent to
the rear effectively ending a great run with six laps remaining. At this point there were 13 of the
original 25 cars still in action with Adams still in control over Broking, Nelson, Uotinen and ryan
Aho. Adams got a nice jump on the field at the green but yet another caution flag before a lap
was completed when Hart stopped in turn three. This time Broking made a move on Adams for
the lead but again the caution flag came out when Rick Cannata turned around in turn three. It
was to be a green/white/checkered finish but over in turn three several cars tangled and Cory
Sersha was deemed the cause. The final try went without incident and Kevin Adams became a
first time Silver 1000 Modified winner. Nelson came up short in his bid for a fourth Modified
crown, Broking Estey and Cannata finished in the top five while 2012 winner Ryan Aho was
sixth and Uotinen limped home in seventh completing the final two laps with a flat left front tire.
The evening’s Late Model finale then rolled onto the speedway, 40 laps for a possible $3300
and a years bragging rights as a Silver 1000 champion. 25 cars took the green flag which did not
go well as Jake redetzke spun off turn two into the infield. Whereas the Modified feature took
multiple times to finish, the Late Models took some time getting started. The next try at a first lap
came to a grinding halt with a multi-car accident in turn one and outside pole sitter Kevin
Carlson was charged. The third time was indeed the charm as a lap was completed with pole
Sitter Brent Larson out to the early lead over Robby Bunkelman, Tim McMann, Darrell Nelson,
Zach Wohlers and Jeff Provinzino. Larson moved off to a three car length lead over Bunkelman
while McMann and Nelson battled for third. Larson and Bunkelman raced away from the pack as
Provinzino charged into fourth and Pat Doar was headed toward the front from his 11th starting
spot. Also making a move forward was 2012 and two time winner Brady Smith from the 13th
starting slot. As Larson began to dive into lapped traffic, Nelson made a run on Bunkelman for
second after breaking free of the third place skirmish with McMann and Doar. Nelson then mad a
strong run and got by both Larson and Bunkelman to the lead as Smith eased into fourth ahead of
Doar. The caution flag flew when Don Copp appeared to attempt to head to the pits off the top of
turn two and collected Jeff Massingill. The caution period came with 15 laps remaining. The
restart saw Bunkelman recapture second behind Nelson with Larson third, Doar fourth and Smith
fifth. With six laps remaining Zach Wohlers slid off the top of turn one bringing out the final
caution flag. Nelson was in control at the green and went on to win his second Silver 1000 Late
Model Championship. Bunkelman, Doar, Larson and Smith finished in the top five.
