Darrell Nelson was looking for a back to back double feature wins Sunday

night at the Proctor Speedway but Jody Bellefeuille had other ideas as he was able

to stay ahead of Nelson to the Modified feature checkered flag. Nelson took

advantage of a caution flag with five laps remaining in the Late Model feature to

overhaul Kevin Carlson who had led from the green flag. In other divisions Scott

Lawrence put an exclamation point on another stellar weekend as he won his

second Super Stock feature to go along with a second place. Danny Vang won his

third Midwest Modified feature since he made the Proctor Speedway his Sunday

night home a few weeks ago. Esten Nelson won his second career Pure Stock

NELSON DOUBLES UP AT PROCTOR FAIR RACES

On a hot warm and muggy night Darrell Nelson of Hermantown mugged the

Late Model and Modified divisions at the South St. Louis County fair races

Sunday night. Nelson started the Late Model feature in the fourth row. National

point leader Todd Frank started from the pole but over cooked it going into the

first turn at the start. Frank shot off the top of turn one into the tire wall on pit

road letting Kevin Carlson blast into the lead. The caution appeared, Frank was

retrieved and restarted at the rear. Carlson got a good start at the green ahead of

Joey Ogston, Nelson, Harry Hanson and Tim McMann. Carlson extended his lead

as Ogston struggled to hold back Nelson. Hanson and McMann were joined by

Kyle Peterlin as they battled for third. Nelson swept past Ogston and set out to

track down Carlson cutting into the lead as the laps wound down. Carlson clung to

the lead but could not hold off Nelson who took over the top spot after a spirited

battle as the white flag flew. Carlson finished second, Ogston, Peterlin and Hanson

PETERLIN WINS SECOND STRAIGHT PROCTOR LM FEATURE

A transplanted Australian now living in Forest Lake, MN won the 20 lap

feature for the Upper Midwest Sprint Series (USMSS) at the Proctor Speedway

Sunday night. Pole sitter Chris Graf was out front and flying for the first eleven

laps but Brooke Tatnell who started fifth, tracked him down and made what

proved to be the winning pass off turn two and was never caught the rest of the

way. Tatnell added to his total as the leading UMSS feature winner. He now has

14 wins in the fledgling organization which in its fourth season. Jerry Richert, Jr

PETERLIN SWEEPS LATE MODELS AT PROCTOR

Neil Balduc of Bessemer, MI won the Midwest Modified feature at the Proctor

Speedway Sunday night. Balduc started on the pole but got snookered by veteran

Bill Matzdorf at the start. Matzdorf bolted from the outside of the second row and

took the lead which he held until the white flag lap when Balduc who had been

dogging Matzdorf’‘s tire tracks since the restart after the caution for Dan Wilson’s

spin early in the 20 lap event, sailed by to the lead and took home his second

feature win of the season. Deven VanHouse and Loren Inman lurked in the top

five for the entire event but couldn’t muster enough steam to challenge the two

leaders. Balduc had his own battle for several laps as he had to let Matzdorf go

while he battled with Kingsley to keep second. Balduc finally broke away from

Kingsley, closed on Matzdorf and those two broke away to duke it out for the win.

In the closing laps the top five pulled away from the pack which was led by Josh
